Engine flush - is it a good idea?

Hi

Hope you are all enjoying the warmer weather and getting your cars back out on the road. Just about to give my 1969 S2 FHC an oil change and would very much appreciate any thoughts from the experts out there as to whether an engine flush would be a good idea? If so whether there is a best practice approach and which products are most effective?

I've read in the past some makes of cars do not recommend engine flushing.

Whilst I've found many posts relating to radiator/coolant flushes I have had no luck on posts regarding the engine.

Halfords sell some engine additive/flush you put into your oil about a week before you plan to change your oil. There are detergents in it that help clean the engine so when you drop your oil it flushes all the crap out with it.
Don't know if this is a housewifes tail or not but I have heard if you do it from when an engine is new its fine but not on an older engine.
I used it once on a Hyundai 1300 engine and it seemed OK.

yes I have heard also that clearing all the crud can lead to finding more evidence of engine wear..
