#1 not staying in tune....ideas ?

Post by Beastieboy » Thu Apr 25, 2013 7:45 am

Hi, I have just had my 1970 S2 tuned using colourtune and airflow meters. All was fine until next time it was started and it seemed out of tune. He retuned it again and run nicely. When left and restarted is run lumpy - either racing on tickover or not ticking over and stalling. It has electronic ignition, timing is right so wondered if anyone had any other ideas ? I know it could be a lot things !

Since it unlikely by your description to be ignition-related, that leaves the carburettors. Somebody might answer if you say which carburettors you have and which of the many possible causes you know about you have already checked.

Hi Steve,

If you have stromberg carbs fitted, check the dash pot oil level which tends to drain past the seals which after many years leak more often than not. Problem is that once you identify this problem and change them, you will have to tune again.

hi guys, well I dont know what I did but it is cured !
Looking for rattles I found that the exhausts were not jointed properly and although not blowing so it seemed - this has helped. More importantly I dismanted all the throttle linkages to give them a clean and oil and in doing so it seems to have cured the problems _ thanks to the article in the E-type mag !
Checked a few other things, took a quick dismantle to the carbs so might be one of many things !
lesson learnt - fix one thing and check !
I'm running the standard 2inch triple SU's.
cheers
Steve
