#1 Engine Block
The engine block on my 3.8 OTS has developed a crack. Should I have it repaired and if so by whom? If not, what advice can you give me about finding a replacement?

Duncan - is this a characteristic crack between the bores or is it more fundamental . I have had good crack repairs, of both types, from a man called Barry John in Parkgate on the Wirral . He uses the stitching with nickel screws method . If you PM me I will let you have his contact details

if it is the original engine and therefore a matching number with the build sheet I would try to keep it. As stated by Christopher, they can be repaired with great success with stitching, not sure where it is cracked though as it would be more difficult id its between the bores.

Andrew: Duncan sent me an e mail which shows it is a water gallery crack on the side of the block ( probably frost damage as far as I can see) . I am sure it can be repaired and i agree with you that this is preferable to replacement. However, it is about 5 inches long and thus stitching may be expensive . Barimar seem to have disappeared, but I think there must still be cast iron repairers out there

I have used a company called Lockstitch in Rochdale for a similar repair to my Daimler Dart V8. Very helpfull indeed.
