#1 Chrome Windscreen side trim

Post by 44DHR » Wed Jul 03, 2013 12:09 pm

I had a friend ask me about the "correct" fit of the chrome windscreen side trims as they were fiting a new windscreen on a Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe.

Does the curved edge of the trim, which is towards the screen, go over the windscreen mounting rubber or is it tucked into the rubber central groove ? I can see advantages to both solutions as over keeps the rubber trim down, but tucked in can look the neatest, but can lift up the rubber lip if pushed too far in. Most photos we can find appear to show it tucked into the central groove.

Either way, I guess the critical thing is how the top and bottom edges of the side trim fit neatly with the top and botom chrome inserts running across the windscreen.

Just getting people's thoughts ?

regards,

Dave

I will take some photos for you. As my screen fitter took a huge amount of care fitting those.

Here's how I did mine. (The treatment top is pretty much similar to the bottom.)

I tucked the front edge under the lip of the rubber after having applied urethane sealer to the backside of the trim to secure it. Then I applied a neat bead of urethane around the front ends of the trim and another along between the trim and the body top and bottom.
