GPS Trackers
#1 GPS Trackers
I was thinking about getting a GPS Tracker for my car (Xexun or similar) as I am going away soon for a week and the car will be parked in hotel car parks etc. However has anyone come up with a solution of where to put the device so that it receives a GPS signal but is still out of sight? Obviously if it is in the window (a la TomTom) it is clear sight of the villain, but hidden away under a seat would not work as it cannot connect to any satellite.

I use a system that is GPS and Phone enabled, plus has vibration sensors etc. I think you can even get a discount via the JEC. The vibration system senses if the car is even slightly touched and then sends me regular texts with the cars GPS location etc. (as I found out when i forgot to turn it off and went for a drive)
The hard part is as you say where to put the device so that it can see the sky - in all honesty it doesnt need to be on view either. I am sure that you too can find somewhere that is not 100% screened by metal - I simply temporarily wired it up and tried it in various locations until I settled on a non obvious one (no I am not going to tell you

I did some brief research here: http://www.etypeuk.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 12&start=0
Most effective deterrent is the CMC removable steering wheel conversion: http://www.etypeuk.com/forum/viewtopic. ... e+steering which both Angus and I have on our cars. There is also another solution but I will send you a PM for obvious reasons.

Thanks David and Chris. I'll get the Xexun and have a fiddle. I can always disguise it within the furry dice! I saw the post on the Forum and spoke to Angus the other day about the removable steering wheel and it may well be something I will do in the future so thanks for the advice.

I've had a TRACKER Retrieve fitted to my S1 OTS. It was mounted in the boot in the right hand wing cavity-completely out of sight. It's specifically designed for classic cars and is battery powered. So no worries about disconnecting the car battery over the winter or having to hack into you're wiring loom. The power pack is guaranteed for five years. It's a one off payment for installation and one year membership-?289 then a yearly subscription of ?99. Not cheap but it will probably reduce your insurance premium.
Unlike other TRACKER units the Retrieve will not automatically alert TRACKER if the car is driven without the use of an ignition key. It relies on you phoning them and then they will locate it for the rozzers.
The accompanying blurb stated that it will still transmit even in underground car parks or shipping containers!
Can't comment on this since it's never been needed in anger.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
