Insurance certificate
#1 Insurance certificate
I have just insured my son on the e type for his wedding and honeymoon over a 2 week period. He is 27 with no conviction etc. I am insured with Carol Nash at an additional cost of ?45 which I thought was reasonable. The revised insurance certificate arrived but does not mention my son as named driver for the 2week period. I rang up the broker and they stated they did not put the named driver on the new certificate for only a two week period, but assured me he was insured and they had all the details if required. My concern is that I have no certificate or evidence other than the additional premium. Does this sound normal to any of you?

What did they revise then, if not the name(s) of insured driver(s)?
I put an ex-Jag friend on my car in the UK when he came over from the USA. I was the other way round in that he stayed on there more or less permanently with Footman James, as at renewal time they said I was allowed an extra driver free.
I'd want an email or a name over the phone so it's not just your word against theirs if an accident should occur.

When I have added additional drivers, the certificate has always arrived with all the drivers named on it. I would absolutely insist on the certificate doing this

Totally agree, get a certificate with his name on. What would happen in the event of an accident and producing documents to the third party or the Police? Even if stopped for a Police check you will need a certificate with his name on it.

I have phoned them again expressing my concern. They are sending me a letter to confirm he is covered. It will be interesting to see what it says

If the policy covers any driver driving with your permission then you will be OK, or a letter conforming cover.
The problem with covering him for a limited period is that the insurance certificate is normally for a 12 month period and your son won't be a named driver for the whole year.
What did they change on your certificate? My guess is you have an additional endorsement that relates to the cover.

Steve,
I think you are right, they did mention an endorsement when I rang. I will wait and see what the letter says.
