Dear all in the E-Type Club

I'll be honest here, I'll not be getting an E for a very, very long time. I'm an 18 year old with a huge passion (some would say obsession) for the E-Type. I love driving out through the Peak District in the summer and seeing all sorts of classics on the road, it's the nearest I can get to driving one. My dad had a 1200 Triumph Herald Convertible (White with red leather) up until about 8 years ago but at the time I wasn't very interested, boy would I love to have had a chance to drive it!

So I'm here to learn about the E and all its faults, quirks and joys. Hopefully I'll avoid pestering you endlessly about what it's like to own one.

My dream is a S1 4.2 OTS. Carmen red with either black or biscuit trim, the former probably just edging ahead at the moment. It's a very long way away but I'm saving and studying regularly in equal measures, and spending many an hour the garage tending my own car whilst admiring the various E-Type posters adorning the wall!

Simon, welcome to the Funny Farm. When you talk about obsession, you're speaking to the choir, here. We all love the E Type and like nothing more than sharing our passion with others. Don't worry about not being able to scratch that itch for the time being. I didn't get to relieve my itch for 44 years after seeing my first one as a 14 year old (1962). I just hope that you won't have to wait that long! Your choice of a Series 1 OTS is excellent (guess what I have)! My only advice to you now is to do your research before buying and remain open minded about all the various flavors of E Type. They're all deliscious!

I am trying a quirky way:

I bought an S1 2+2 from a scrapyard, 10.000 USD, and since 2009 / Jan I am working on it.

Now, once it?s done, I maybe will

a) have learnt it all about S1 E?s , and

b) sell it to buy an S1 roadster....

Very admirable that the younger generation is taking an interest in these vintage beauties. It is important that the "torch" is passed on. Its never too early to start your research (and save your money) in anticipation of buying your first. I am new around here too (although I have been "around the block" a few times) and have found these folks to be very helpful and informative. So welcome aboard and ask away!

Well would you look at that, only feels like yesterday since I started partially annoying you lot on here, but a year and 201 posts (this inclusive

) I'm still here. I didn't think I'd be as involved in the club as I am now. Club events, informal gatherings, a ride in a S1 OTS (thanks Tony), magazine articles, controversial discussions about radiators ;) and my own club run in the Peak District later, I guess you can say I haven't done badly without an E-Type. I thank you all for putting up with me and supporting my enthusiasm, I didn't expect you'd be supportive, what with me being the youngster. The dream is a lot nearer, and I will make it happen.

I love your enthusiasm, Simon, and have enjoyed vicariously sharing the journey with you this past year. My passion for the E was ignited in 1962 when I first saw one as a 14 year old. It took me 46 years before I was able to scratch that itch; I sincerely hope that it doesn't take you that long because I think that you really deserve one.

That's very nice of you Mark :) I share my experiences because of my enthusiasm and also because it's a different take on being involved with E-Types, my viewpoint on things is (as you may assume) different occasionally, probably through my age. The problem with me is I am either immersed in something entirely or I don't bother. It's that sort of "well why can't I do that? I'm going to do it anyway, they won't mind" attitude I've had with the club, they have been very supportive of me organising things, as has Brian Green, one of my local reps. I just had a thought one day and in typical me fashion I just decided I was going to do something, and got on with it. It can only be a good thing.

Age and ownership i'm sure is unimportant if you love the E. I'm new here, newer than you, but you are an enthusiastic member and that's what counts
