#1 Right rear lamp wiring; mystery wire

Post by abowie » Mon Feb 17, 2014 4:13 am

I'm rewiring my 3.8 roadster.

In the picture below can be seen the wires for the R rear lights.

What is the RED/GREEN wire for? The only other wire on that car that colour that I can find is for the brake fluid warning light.

The other wires are:

RED tail lamp
GW right hand indicator
GP stop light
GN reverse lamp

I think the Green/Red wire is for the left hand indicator light.

Is there a GR wire in the LH body loom?

The RG wire that you refer to is connected in parallel with the RG to the brake fluid warning light and connects at its other end to the microswitch on the handbrake lever .

The other connection to the microswitch goes to earth.

Thus operating the handbrake or the float switches in the brake fluid reservoirs brings on the brake fluid warning light.

Yes, but that's on the left hand side, and it's green/red, not red/green. This wire is on the right.

This RG is in the right rear tail light cluster wires, which is what has me confused.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's a mistake...I will see what Autosparks have to say.

The GR on the l/h side is the feed to the rear flasher

I too am puzzled why the RG on the rh side emerges at the tail light cluster . Do you also have a single RG wire in your loom kit to connect from the main loom to the handbrake microswitch ?

It may well be that Autosparks have wrapped the RG too far along with the rest of the wires to the rh tail light area whereas IIRC mine emerged part way down the loom just about level with the rear of the driver's seat . If so the easiest fix will be to extend the RG back into the cockpit to the microswitch rather than unwrap and re-wrap the loom.

I presume you've located the other end of the RG at the dashboard /A-pillar to enable the connection the brake fluid warning light feed to be achieved ?

Hmm..nooo..

There isn't another end of the RG at the dashboard....because some twit has put the RHS rear loom in backwards..

Once I put it back in the right way round all should be well. Many thanks to you both for your help!
