Hi all,
1966 Series 1 4.2 2 + 2: The exposed parts of the door lock assemblies and the striker plates have a little surface rust and discolouration. I understand that these can be painted or plated.
Is one thing better than the other, and what sort of plating is best?
Cheers,
Roger

No, I don't believe 66 2+2 anti-burst locks were chrome. Cad I think. Bright zinc is fine or whatever floats your boat.

Thanks Chris and Peter for your time.
I'll have a chat with the local platers and weigh things up!
Cheers,
Roger

Roger the issue with cadmium plating, which would probably have been what these parts left the factory with, is that the process is quite toxic. As such not many platers offer it.
Zinc plating is an acceptable substitute. Some of the lock parts are diecast though and these will be damaged by the plating process so be cautious.

Thanks Andrew for the reply. I wasn't aware that diecast parts were a problem in plating. Can they be masked off to protect them?
Cheers,
Roger
