#1 Clock repairs

Post by Tommy P » Thu Apr 03, 2014 9:46 am

The time clock on my series 2 does not work.
I've had the clock out and replaced the battery but it still does not work.
Any recommendations for who can restore the clock?
Is it possible to have these clocks converted from battery operation to running from the supply from the car.
Cheers

Contact Mike Ecke in the States. He does a rapid turnaround and highly recommended: http://www.coolcatcorp.com/Merchant5/me ... Code=Clock

Tom,5

I used a company called the gauge shop but he still has 2 of mine and I cant get through to him. There is a company called JDO www.jdo1.com. Never used them so if you do, let us know. The Mike Eck route in the US is probably the best though.

Thanks Dave and Angus
Just spoken to JDO and they don't repair the model I have ndcommedd usin the Kienzle as used in the series 3. Not quite what I want to do for originality.
So It's looking like Mike Eke.

I imagine you've tried the hammer test? Mine wasn't working, and didn't have a battery in it. I put a new battery in, and bingo, it still refused to work. So I sprayed it everywhere I could with WD40, then tapped it firmly on a hard surface, and suddenly it sprang into life! Kept perfect time ever since.

I used the gauge shop a year or so ago, he fixed my Kienzle clock but he is painfully slow and hardly ever answers the phone or emails. I also sent him an AC clock off my Lanchester, he had two goes at fixing it over a 12 month period and it still doesnt work! I gave up in the end. Ian

Angus : I think the place you are referring to is run by a chap called Alan ( can't remember his surname ) . Your experience is fairly usual - I don't think he means any harm but things do seem to get on top of him

Yes thats the chap Chris. I've spoken to him (and his wife) a few times and he seems a decent bloke, just rubbish at communication!

I had the same experience, a solid hit and it got back to life!
But I don't find batteries anymore for it, hence have temporarily hooked a pack of 2 x 1.5v AA alkaline and it works fine.
Grateful if you could let me know where you procure the battery?
Cheers,
Ralph

I got mine off ebay searching for
LR50 1.5V Alkaline Replacement battery
I got two so they can't both be faulty, or can they ?
the hammer/ taping didn't work for me, so it's off to USA.

Just an update on the clock repair.
Took a few weeks, but good service and the clock is keeping good time so far and looks good.
Total cost was $110 (at exchange rate) plus ?12 postage tracked to USA.
Thanks for the recommendation to Mike Ecke.

Just received my Series 2 clock back from Mike Ecke who has done an excellent repair job and it now runs on a standard AA battery.

No hesitation in recommending Mike.

Ralph, I got my batteries from "the small battery company", here:
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... S3jTlV6VOg

You can ring them on 020 88713686
I found them very helpful, with both this and other (non e type) battery issues I had. Also, good prices with cheap delivery.
And I have no commercial interest in them!

Just ordered 2 more myself, at ?4.27 each inc delivery.
Worth noting that they are also known by other codes:
PX1A / 1A / A1PX / 1100A / PC1A.
If you search on the home page under LR50, you must do so with no gaps
The batteries are actually replacements for original mercury ones, and are fractionally higher voltage than the original. My clock therefore runs just a tiny bit fast; not really an issue.

Your clock isn't one with a battery.... It's fed from the "mains"

If it's not working it needs to go to Mike in the states as above mentioned. Very good service.

I have just managed to repair my clock myself having installed the new LR50 battery to ne effect I checked the continuity and resistance between the battery terminals and the connections to the body of the clock. Both + and - showed bad joints where they connect to the body. I just cleaned them up and the clock now works. Possibly worth trying this before despatching to the States for repair. AA battery mod next...
