Length of S2 throttle control rod?
#1 Length of S2 throttle control rod?
Can someone with a S2 FHC or OTS please measure the length of their throttle control rod and post it here, it's part number C.17868. My car is a 2+2, the rod has a different part number but looks similar, unfortunately this part isn't available and mine has just sheared.
Thanks
Ian

SU's Pete, the 2+2 rod is 11.5" long, I'm trying to find out if the OTS/FHC rod will fit or not.

#5 Re: Rod length
Thanks Steve, I've just remeasured and it's 10 3/4" end to end, I'd like it a little shorter in any case to remove some slop. I have discovered that Stag carb rod ends fit on the Jag nipples though so I might see if I can just get a length of appropriately threaded bar and use that.vacbag wrote:Ian on my series 2 OTS it is 10 1/2 inches long.

What's broken? I have a number of bits and pieces left over from LHD conversions that could probably be used to fix it.

It's part number C.30932 Andrew, the LHD part numbers are different. This is the long, adjustable, rod that links the pivots. The adjuster on mine had seized so I had applied some heat and tried to turn it, I thought it was moving correctly but actually it sheared. I have put it together with Araldite for now but have no idea if this will hold for any length of time. Please let me know if you have anything suitable.

I think it's the same control rod but differs by model: C17868 is for OTS/FHC and C30932 is for the 2+2

Nothing to show Andrew as I've glued it back together for now, the rod is split at the adjuster end, a photo now would show it as intact.abowie wrote:Flick me an email with a pic of what's broken.

This is correct Chris, if they are the same length though why use different part numbers?chrisvine wrote:I think it's the same control rod but differs by model: C17868 is for OTS/FHC and C30932 is for the 2+2

As a temporary fix I am using a pair of Triumph Stag carb rod ends that I had available, these take the same nipple size as the E-Type, I have connected them with a length of 5mm threaded bar from B&Q. So far all is working well.
I have also now ordered what looks to be the appropriate part from e-type parts online based upon them actually posting the dimensions and they look to be appropriate, fingers crossed.

I now have a replacement rod, C17868 is the same as the 2+2 part just a different number, I got a stainless steel rod from the US. Buying from the US and paying customs & Royal Mail's exorbitant handling fee was still cheaper than getting one from a UK supplier.
