Can someone tell me if all Series 2s have a gigarette lighter point as I will need one to use my Tom Tom GPS unit to find my way back from a possible Series 2 purchase about 400 kms west of Brisbane!

Bugger me. That's one way to find out if the car has any problems :-)

That should be an interesting drive. Don't think you'll need to use the gps very often though - there will only be an intersection every 250km or so.

Watch out for kangaroos !

Not sure if the series 2 is positive or negative earth. If a positive earth then you cannot use a satnav as you will blow it up (the sat nav that is not the car). If positive earth you need to fit an inverter or change the car to negative earth.

Some one more technical will be able to advise.

If it is standard it will have one. HOWEVER, I have seen several S2s (and currently own one) without a functioning lighter socket. This is because the position moved around depending on AC fitment. Many get butchered during removal/modification of the latter. Best just to ask straight up does the lighter work. Enjoy the trip. I've done several lo gish drives in old Jags I have bought sight unseen - it's a special feeling wondering will she / won't she?

"it's a special feeling wondering will she / won't she?"

I still get the same feeling when I take mine out after six years of ownership. The thrill of the unknown.
