#1 Moss...1 gear missing

Post by vipergts » Wed Sep 03, 2014 2:04 pm

Actually...I'm not sure what the score is

I have just spent far too much time and money bringing a complete shed....in fact a genuine barn find....up and running (Mechanically that is)

I've run it on the ramp with its wheels in the air and tried the gearbox and I can't seem to select 2nd

Now what's likely to be the problem here?

1st, 3nd and 4th all good inc rev

Not sure. Could be some rust on the shaft or selector bars stuck. Would be inclined to ask the previous owner if there was a problem. Doubt it . You maybe able to take off the gearbox top to check. If you want I can find out the details of the chap who rebuilt mine. He would talk you through it I am sure

Got a simular problem with my 63 3.8 only it's 3rd that's not joining in the fun. Haven't had time to investigate further yet so am interested in your findings. I've driven the car with the other three gears and it seems fine.would just like to have the full set to play with. Where a outs in Kent are you? I'm near tunbridge wells

I'm very near Tonbridge but actually come under Sevenoaks.

How long have you had the issue......Did it wake up one day and just not slip into 3rd?

I think 2nd is a hard gear not to have in a Moss box

I spent 10 years and more money than I can put on paper turning a totally rotten wreck into the peach it is now and I put a second hand gear cluster into the original box with new bearings and gaskets and everything seemed ok but several years later when it was ready to start driving it just will not go into 3rd. At the moment the car is in storage with the occasional trip out but soon I hope to be able to keep it at home and then I can start to address the minor niggles that are present
