We are finishing off my wife's 1967 4.2 car after many new panels and complete respray. At the moment we are struggling with the dash board top.
Along with many other parts we bought a new vinyl dash board top cover from a well known Jaguar parts supplier. When it came we found it was impossible to glue the outer vinyl overlap to the metal dash top as it was both too shiny and too rigid. The person who was trying to do the fitting is pretty handy,an antiques restorer who does a little upholstery and is well used to leather, impact adhesives and the use of a heat gun but he simply could not get the vinyl to stick to the metal despite keying it etc. The job was taken over by a lad whose job is making car trim and he re-covered the whole thing with a cloth backed vinyl which did stick.He has made a neat job but on positioning the dash top it just does not look right as the top corners look too raised. As the dash is such a visible part of the car we will be forced I'm afraid to start again from scratch.We still have the original foam interior and top cover albeit a bit ratty now but where do we go from here ?
Can anyone help please with recommendations for a good quality and faithful reproduction of the dash board top that we might fit or alternatively recommend a trimmer who has done a dash top re-trim from the steel upwards. Having just discovered the forum,this is our first post and I'm hoping someone can help.

bAS in South Wales supplied all my interior and did all the difficult bits including dash top, gearbox tunnel and seats Cant reccommend them highly enough

+1 for BAS...I bought their moulded top at a show and fitted it myself
You need heat....a hair drier will do just fine, once warm the plastic becomes perfectly pliable
Some shaving of the inner foam....use a scalpel or modelling knife to ensure good alignment, and remove...even gently sand the leading edge curved profile which does come with visible seam marks from the moulding process.....use high temperature contact adhesive....I get mine via a decent supplier on eBay and you are away

I think I'm beginning to home in on BAS,especially as they do a fitting service. All I have to do is turn up with the metal dash.
Has anyone any further experience of this ?

Visited BAS in Cwmbran (by appointment) with dash top. Super friendly reception and introduction to trimmer who was to do the job,tour of the workshops etc.
Two hours later,after lunch,picked up the re-covered dash panel,paid over ?120 and was very pleased with the results.
Highly recommended.
