#1 Diff oil

Post by thegfb » Fri Sep 19, 2014 11:24 am

Is Morris XEP80W/90 Spec API GL5, MIL-L-2105D the right oil for the differntial/rear axle on my late '61 FHC? the description of the oil on the packaging does say for 'Limited Slip Differentials' but from previous posts I gather that there 3(?) specific types of LSD. It was originally a left hand drive car brought back from the USA in '89/'90 I believe - I don't know if the diff ration was changed but the engine is turning over at 3000rpm at a GPS checked 70mph. In the repro handbook I have the oil spec is listed as simply EP90 - no mention of special LSD additives etc - were there no special LSD oils at that time?
Thanks in anticipation
GF

Jaguar supplied LSD additive. Still available:

Alternatively buy the correct weight oil that clearly specifies it is for an LSD rear axle as it is formulated correctly e.g.: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-970-limited-slip-diff.aspx The Redline oil has an excellent reputation: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1016-red-li ... 0-gl5.aspx I am currently using Carlube (aka Comma) LS80w-95.

I should just give Morris in Shrewsbury a ring. We have found them very helpful
