Hi been stripping parts of the front suspension ready for plating. When I stripped the suspension off the car some 27 years ago I had the foresight to put the shims together with the removed bolts .on counting them today I notice that the top wishbone pivots on one side have 2 more shims than the other side? Since I didn't mark up which side of the car they came off I'm open to suggestions to why this is (series 1 2+2 rhd) . I will probably need to start from scratch anyway as the car needs new wishbones and the full works .
Thanking you in advance :D

Im sure someone will be along to give you a technical answer but my own experience is that 'that's how it is' .
The factory set them on the initial build and everyone was different. The shims just compensate for the engineering differences between the suspension components.
If your having to fit new wishbones then just keep the shims for the final
setting up.
Good to see a e type local to me Dewsbury!.

Hi ,
Yes I gathered that , probably have to start from scratch when I get the suspension rebuilt.
Are the torsion bars plated or are they painted black?
Regards Jim
Might have to bob over and see you and get some picks to help with the rebuild :D

My recently completed 3.8 has 6 on the left and one on the right.
If you don't know which side had more shims just put an equal number in both. A quick trip to the wheel aligners will sort it out.
