Decembers edition of Jaguar World has a 34 page guide to modifying the E type.
it mentions that a series 1 car could upgrade to series 2 water pump ((with the correct timing cover) to improve cooling.
do the series 2 pumps really have that much bigger impellers to consider such a change?

Be mindful that the S2 cooling system upgrades included a larger radiator and wider opening in the bonnet.
The expense of tearing apart your car for 1 improvement that was part of a comprehensive engineering update, may not be worth it.
If, however, your car is apart for some major service, replacing the timing cover and updating your water pump probably won't hurt anything except the resale value.
