#1 advice price for a 2+2 auto
Hi guy's,
I am looking to buy a 69 2+2 automatic. 72k on the clock. It is in a ok shape. It has been stored for 20 years and not been driven. The car looks ok. lots of dust etc. I
What would you think a car like this is worth? It is tough to find a accurate price and now a day's e-type prices are sky high. I don't want to over pay for a car that needs a restoration.
what do you guy's think? 8k?

Hi I think that ?8k may be a little low....
Is there a full service history with the car, what country has it lived in during its life? Is the car drivable?
I would think that it may be nearer ?15-?20k for a drivable car that needs some work....but just a guess

Hi.....how long is a piece of string.......you obviously have a price in mine, but very much depends on what needs doing to it.......just be aware that being a 2 +2 auto it is a bit less desirable but if an auto is what u want thats ok......best advice would be to guestimate what it will cost to get it to the condition that you require and then see whats out there for that price......good luck Steve

Bear in mind that you could get a pretty much immaculate 2+2 auto for, say, ?25k. Maybe a tad more. Then imagine what it would take to get your car there, and subtract. That's your price. But don't underestimate the cost of getting your car right, particularly if it has stood for a long time. Maybe take someone with you who could help in an evaluation?

Thanks guy's,
That is why i am asking around :) It has been sitting in a garage since 1985. Engine is turning over by hand. It has a rusted floor but it looks complete. To be honest i am not a big fan of a series 2 2+2. auto. But i figured if the price is right it might be a good deal. It is not a UK car. t's a Canadian car.
What is the worst thing that can happen lets say i can get it for 10K if it is not worth restoring i think i should be safe in parts alone. right>
Bonnet is nice and straight. Body work is nice and straight just the floor is rusted. Engine has 72k on it. Interior is a bit rough. I know it is the entry level of a e-type but i want to make sure you guy's think it is a good deal.
Cheers Jeroen

Well, I think the consensus seems to be that it will not be a good deal. A car that has stood unused, and un-run apparently , for 30 years, is going to require very lengthy and probably expensive work on brakes and suspension , and probably electrics, even to get it on the road again, and that is without any expenditure on bodywork . A golden rule with an E is that if you can see rust on visible parts, there will be just as much rust on invisible parts. In the sense that at US $ 10K you could probably get some of your money back by breaking it, it might have some merit, but only if you are prepared to face the frustration and disappointment of putting a lot of effort into a project which possibly turns out to be a failure

Hi again......note from your previous posts that you already own a 2+2, so u know the values and costs involved.....if your thinking of breaking it and it costs in then just buy it , we are all too remote as you are in Canada to give value advice....Steve

If you want to have a look at rough & ready cars with rusty floors, tired interiors and generally needing more that just some TLC, and even better the cars are in North America, then check out Beverly Hills Car Club.
Endless amusement at what they find (regularly) and what they manage to sell (regularly). Generally they are low teens (in US dollar) at their low end. Sometimes they have incomplete or basket cases for under 10K.
Oh and they have good ones too, so no discredit to them. They do seem good at finding stuff.

yes that is correct. i own a 67 2+2. I love the car and at some point to restore it. But it just to much fun to drive! I can't miss it very time i drive it it brings a big smile on my face! It's far from a show car but it drives like a dream.
I found this 69 by accident i am not sure if i will buy it. It is 5000km away so i have to buy it unseen if i want it. But with e-type prices rising so fast, it looks like a deal. But i will let you guy's know if i end up buying it.
Yes i know BH car club it's hilarious that they ask 30k for a basket case.
But it gets sold! thats the thing even on ebay rust buckets get sold for decent $$$ The only positive thing is that the Canadian dollar is very weak compared to the Pound.
cheers Jeroen

That'll be this one:

Very tidy.... but wow! It's actually over ?80k by the time buyer's premium is taken into account.
People must be really keen to get their hands on early bonnet spring cars

To be fair, whilst immaculate fully-restored S1s are ten-a-penny (with all due respect to the immaculate fully-restored S1 owners out there!), how many immaculate fully-restored LHD S2 2+2 Autos with Strombergs can there be out there?
Maybe whoever bought it grew up with one as a family car and was prepared to pay that sort of money to recapture something of their past? People do a lot of odd things: some people will shell out huge sums of money for twenty quids' worth of canvas with a bit of paint slapped on it....
