#1 Battery Carrier

Post by ralphr1780 » Sun Dec 21, 2014 9:38 am

I have got 2 battery carriers available.
One which is the familiar pressed steel sheet identical to the one on my S2), and one which totally unfamiliar made of thick aluminium.
Was the aluminium one fitted at a certain period on S1? Pros and cons?

Whilst reading the words my mind was formulating silly answer for pro's (and con's) = "the aluminium part is lighter"

However when I looked at the pic's and the huge thickness of the alu part I now doubt that it is lighter.....

Con's then being heavier and more prone to corrosion in environment of mixed metals, moisture and battery fumes.

Looks like a home made part. The Factory carriers were steel.

The weight is quite close. The aluminium one is very rigid hence does not require any side bolts and is much easier to fit. The plastic tray hold easy on it as well.
It does not appear to be home made at all, and in fact I have 2 of these, one is already sprayed silver.
