#1 REOPUS upgrade to a V12 E type

Post by hastylane » Tue May 05, 2009 7:35 pm

I have fitted the REOPUS electronic circuit board to my V12 E type in place of the Lucas OPUS board in the amplifier and would like to share my experience with you. If you have a V12 and do not think that you are getting the best from the car then try the REOPUS. The difference is amazing. I had a flat spot which felt like weak mixture, but as it turned out it was down to the OPUS system. The car is much more responsive to light throttle openings especially on the motorway. The V12 has to fire twice as often as a 6 cylinder and maintaining the timing variation between cylinders with the OPUS was difficult with 1970's technology. The REOPUS rectifies many of the original deficiencies with the original system with up to date electronic components.

For ?235 and a five year warranty and a V12 that performs like a V12, It was money well spent. www.reopus.co.uk.

Here is a picture of my car on Sunday evenings road test.

Thanks for the tip, it will come in useful as I rebuild my V12...do you have any other useful improvements/modifications for the V12 car?

Thanks Peter

Hi Peter and Gary,

The REOPUS requires a steady hand and a small tipped soldering iron for use on printed circuit boards. The unit comes with explicit instructions, you will either need to solder 5 or 6 wires depending on whether you have a standard unit which fits in the V or the uprated version which sits under the header tank. At the time of ordering you need to advise on which set up you have so they can supply you with the correct board.

As to upgrades the ultimate would be fuel injection. The carb arrangement is poor and over fueling is required when cold to make the engine work properly which later on in life manifests itself as valve guide wear. V12 XJS's fuel inj do not seem to suffer the same issues as on the Carb E types. My car is standard else where.

Regards Andrew
