#1 Sun visor slipping down

Post by andrewh » Mon Mar 09, 2015 3:01 pm

I am sure this will have been posted before but cannot find the answer . My newly re trimmed visors fall down when you drive along. A tad irritating. I have thought of putting some tape on the chrome bars to hold them tighter , which is rather better than my better halves idea of two bits of Velcro one on the headlining and ......well you get the idea. What's the fix please chaps?

Simple: bend the bar inside the sun visor ever so slightly. Job done. Works for all recalcitrant sun visors - not just E-type ones.

Ahaha, perfect. Come to think about it , I think mine may have a split up the end which you can open up a bit. I will check, thanks for the help on this.

I think that the fitting inside is just a pressed metal tube; you could tap it gently with a mallet to squash it.

Sorry to recover an old post but I think could help some me included.
My passenger sun visor doesnt stay where it should and is a small PITA.
I’ve just read about the solution included in this thread but I’m concerned about breaking the tube metal or the holders.
Can it be done with the visor in place or you have to dismount it first?

If you pull the visor off the rod you will see the rod is split Bend it further apart to increase grip on the visor

My’66 coup’s sun visor (September 1965 manufacture date) does not want to stay up. It does not fall all the way down but generally hangs about an inch down from the headliner. I do not have an issue with the passenger side as I suspect it was not used as much. Unlike the visor pictured in this thread, mine are covered in the same grey fabric material as the headliner. The fabric covering the visor was split and I managed to glue it but the sagging persists. Is the interior frame on the earlier coupes the same as the one pictured above? Is the fIx the same (remove the visor and split the rod a bit) and will this fix work if the foam within the visor is hardened? In advance, thank you for your thoughts

When I looked at my post, I realized that it was attached to a thread without pictures. Should have been attached to the thread entitled “Sun Visor Photo” started by Malc. Apologies for the confusion.

And the pictures shown in the thread entitled “Sun Visor Restoration” started by Keithmac. If I only knew how to combine the 3 threads, I could have made it easier for all.
