I spoke to him about it last night and the circumstances seem most strange. The car was completely cold and he went into the garage to shuffle her about. Choke on, starts her up and there was this almighty backfire through the carbs. He reckons they were slightly overfuelled. (Normally backfires are contained in the air plenum? He's running Webers though) He thinks some fuel got onto the exhaust and up she went (that's all he could think of.) He got the fire out initially with an extinguisher but it went again and he couldn't control it :/ "terrifying and agonising"
