#1 engine numbers

Post by Beastieboy » Fri May 15, 2015 1:52 pm

So I am researching the history of my S2 1970 and coming up with lots of things.
It has had triumph (I think they are anyway) rear lights with built in reversing lamps - but no owner remembers this !.
It was resprayed (Sable originally) to Red and an interior change (beige) to Black. I think I know when this was done also but not by whom - yet - they seem to have disappeated. It also has a new cylinder head as the previous warped and they put a later one on (wrong cam covers).
Checking the engine number I came across something I'd missed before. All the documentation states it is 1R11327-9, as does the plate in the engine bay. However, on the bell housing when its cleaned its 1R11527-9 ! 200 out ! It is hard to believe this is a replacement engine with all the rest of the numbers so close - so has anyone heard of these types of "admin" errors before ?

Rear lights with integrated reversing are from a Lotus Elan S4. The record books were handwritten so mistakes did occur especially with a '3' becoming a '5'.

That'll be a knackered pump in all probability

Or it could be a blockage in the plastic tubing.
I cured mine using an electric tyre pump; foot pump would work too.
I used the valve connector to connect to the plastic tubing where it leaves the water bottle, disconnected the tube from the nozzles at the other end, and switched on the pump. After just a second, a huge glob of crap came out of the tubing. All was fine after that.

I only fit in a 2+2, so got one!
