Best Lightweight Starter for 4.2

My original starter motor has started to play up - namely not disengaging correctly

Any thoughts on lightweight starters and best place to buy?

I got mine from Moss-Europe, you'd need to call them to make sure you get the right model for your car, ?158 IIRC and it works great.

I think the starter is the same for all the 4.2 engines.

Some of the generic high torque starters have an adjustable mounting plate that can be rotated and locked in place. This is a nice feature so that you can get the angle of the starter right relative to the side of the block.

My series 1.5 has a nice hole with plate in the footwell that allows some access to the 2 bolts at the back of the starter. Not sure if this feature is there on series 2 cars but it will make getting the bottom bolt out a lot easier if it is. It's tight in there but you should manage with an appropriate amount of swearing and fiddling.

Replacing the 2 mounting bolts with hex headed screws has the advantage that you can lock the screw positively onto the tool which may make insertion easier.
