#1 RHD Mirror Jaguar E-type

Post by Henkie » Thu Jun 25, 2015 4:57 pm

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can buy an "OLD" RHD E-type series II mirror that mounts on the door?

I Have a '69 LHD E-type but when I reverse I miss the second (or third) mirror!

Yes you can buy them new, but they have a black plastic frame around them....

Thanks MGCJAG. I did contact TEX but as all new mirrors the glass is held by plastic.

I thinks I need to go to a used parts sale meeting.

Hi,

I did a lot of searching for door mirrors for Series 3 cars, if I am right, then those fitted to early Series 3 are the same as those fitted to Late Series 2 and possibly all Series 2 cars.

If these are the mirrors you seek (see forum topic below):

viewtopic.php?t=2042&postdays=0&postord ... r&start=20

then my conclusion was that SNG Barratt have the best solution. The mirror glass is held in place with a black surround. You can see it in the top post of the page linked above, alongside some other designs from other sources.

Regards,

Simon

Hi Henke
If the mirror you refer to is a Tex type, they were standard fitment on many Leyland Cars of the period including Minis and Triumphs.
I bought mine from Somerford Mini Ltd, stock code GAM215A for about ?20, but I already had the door fitting.
Contact +44(0)1249721421
Look on the website www.somerfordmini.co.uk , search using stock code to confirm it is the type you require.
They specialise in mail order.

Hi Henkie,

I also have the same problem on my 1970 XKE S2 FHC (now converted to RHD). I need an original (on what was the passenger door) mirror complete with no black plastic inserts as the current one angles down and in too much, so I cannot see properly behind.

The angle of the arm behind where it joins the mirror back points downward, therefore the mirror cannot be tilted upward or outward enough ?

Can you let us know the resolution you find.

Thx
Mike
