I think this came about in 1966 or so. My 67, late S1 car has it. But I have a manual oil pressure gauge which lacks the green light....I suppose I could remove the 2 one inch green legends from the electrical gauge and insert them into the (much better) manual gauge.
Right or wrong???

Doesn't the green light come from a filter, with normal white bulb behind? Lots of the filters perish or crack hence losing their colour.
There are companies out there who offer LED replacements in whichever colour you fancy. Here's one of them: http://www.bettercarlighting.co.uk/
Hope this helps

The green or blue filters are riveted in place:

They become very brittle with heat so probably best to buy a new set from Speedograph-Richfield or Speedy Cables.

This looks like the speedometer without the black face. So either of those might sell a new? mechanical oil pressure gauge for the post Sept `65 E-type S1 (with the green bulbs and outer liner in place..... Wonderful if that is the case. I will ask them about a "green" Volt meter as well, and report back

I dug into this a few years ago. Not at home at the moment to check but from memory they started at RH drive FHC CHASSIS 1E21000. Or FHC body number 4E23000.
I found a service bulletin that covers it, if memory serves. May well be late 65, possibly linked with change of pedal box to series 2 type.
Could be talking rubbish (not unknown)!!!!
