Im sure at the beginning I raised an Insurance thread but it seems to have gone

I know theres a thread on the next page for an agreed valuation insurance process also.

But guys which companies are you using, what do you pay (if you dont me asking) and has there service been good?

I know it all goes on age, postcode,driving history etc etc.

Just wanted to know who was recommended in the E Type insurance world?

I first used Norwich Union and with agreed value and limited mileage it was ?1200 p.a. Clean licence, no accidents. Each year they added more conditions - "thou shalt not go on rallies, club days, travel with more than two vehicles, no Nurburgring etc etc". I went to Footman James and with an agreed value of ?75,000, unlimited mileage, no joy killing conditions it cost ?225. No experience of a claim, obviously.

Did you use the JEC valuation. I ask as I recently spoke to Colin Searle of JEC and I feel he vastly underestimates the value of some cars (mine for example)

I used a local specialist who knows the car and the market. Basically you need to consider what would be the cost to replace your car in the event of total loss without betterment. Unfortunately the Clubs can be out of step with market conditions so you need to find an honest broker who is prepared to match your car against known (retail sale) examples and stand by their valuation. Their reputation depends on it.

I think I'll go that route as the JEC benchmark seems to be concours, whereas the replacement value of a car tailored to the owners liking could be much higher - take Eagle for example, no way the highly modified ones would class as concours despite being expensive works or art. Another plus would be in saving JEC membership fees and not having to suffer another article about a loon who polishes the underside of his XK8 with Red Thunder (whatever that is). Whew! glad I've got that off my chest :D

I put my own value on the car and it was accepted. All I have to do is provide photographs.

I presently use Lancaster insurance services (?230'ish with breakdown cover) and this year had the agreed valuation raised by sending in 20+ pictures on cd and internet links to current private and dealer adverts of similar (condition) cars to mine.
They came back with a valuation exactly in the middle price range of the links I sent in.

Which company are you insured by ?

For the agreed value I have to supply photos and a statement from "a jag / classic car knowledgeable person or someone in the jag club" to confirm the valuation.

The photos are not a problem but I won't use JEC for the valuation as their valuations are always too low

Sorted my Insurancewith 3pts just about to come off and one accident 3 yrs back.

Got a quote for ?234 quite chuffed :D

Beats about ?750 on the M5 :(
