Hello E-type folks,
I'm new on here but have been around jags for a lot of my life. I am looking for a little help and advice.
When my folks divorced many years ago I was 'lucky' enough to be given an E-Type S2 3.8 coupe out of the settlement.
Sadly, despite having the plans of getting it done up and running again luck has not been on my side to allow this to happen. The car itself has had a bit of a torrid time in the past and is sadly not all original. However, I was told of something special about it, which I cannot say if it is true or not currently, and that was that it use to belong to the British Embassy in Paris.
So the question I ask is A- How could I get the car checked to see what is needed to get it back to its former glory? and B- What would be the going price for a car of this type?
A bit of background to its current state is that most of the bodywork is in good condition, the engine was running when it was last put in the garage about 15-20 years ago, it has been kept covered and garaged and I have been told that the car has been sealed underneath.
A sad moment. Some help needed.

What year was the car made? You say its a series 2 but they did not have a 3.8 engine? they had a 4.2 engine and if its a S2 it maybe a 2+2 rather than a FHC.
Its all about condition, best thing to do is post some photos of the car first and then the many experts on here can give you some meaningful advice.

My apologies Alty Ian. It must be a 4.2L. I think its about 1966? I sadly don't have too much info on it at the moment but I will speak to my Dad about it as he was the one who dealt with it all when it was at its best and visiting Jaguar Drivers' Club meetings.
I'm sure I could post some pictures. What pictures would people want to see to enable them to judge it on?

A picture speaks a thousand words. Details of the engine number/ chassis number (found on the RHS of the front "picture frame" under the bonnet) matched with the data plate on the RHS to give us an idea of whether it might be "matching numbers" or not.jagE91 wrote: I'm sure I could post some pictures. General pictures showing the condition of the car from all angles will let these very knowledgeable folk make a reasonable judgement!

Thanks SEJohnson95. Thats great info. I'll get some pics of those bits and take some general pictures too.
Thats a lovely example you've got yourself! I think mine might be the same colour as yours? Is yours Regency Red?

The car is a 1965 FHC, and is opalescent maroon with beige leather. The car does not belong to me unfortunately, it belongs to a friend of mine who is the Cheshire/Derbyshire rep for the E-Type Club and I am a lucky man to be allowed near to these cars at my age. Here's a few more photos for you:jagE91 wrote:Thanks SEJohnson95. Thats great info. I'll get some pics of those bits and take some general pictures too.

And a full size version of my "avatar" - taken at the 2014 Club Day, just before departing Philip Porter's for the Club Dinner!

May I also point you in the direction of xkedata? Fascinating resource of online records for E-Types. Check and see if yours is on there as you can search by chassis number, age, make, registration etc. Here's Richard's car:

Thanks
