Hi Everyone
My original petrol cap seal was well past it's best so after reading through the S1 factory fit thread, I decided to buy a Wilmot Breedon locking cap.
I managed to acquire one off that well known auction site for a very reasonable sum. The owner never mentioned the words Jaguar or E-Type anywhere in the listing so as a result I bought it for a very reasonable price.
It arrived today and it's in excellent condition.
Unfortunately it doesn't fit!
The locking mech body is 44mm in diameter-the same as that shown in the factory fit, but the existing cap lugs body is only 38mm. I never thought to check before buying and even asked the seller for that particular measurement.
My car was built in October 1961 and so is a very early non flat floor S1. Was the size of the fuel filler neck changed at sometime during production?
The existing cap looks like the original factory fitted item and I'd be very surprised if the petrol filler assembly had been changed either.
I'm a bit puzzled and disappointed.
Can anyone enlighten me?
Cheers
Alan

All the cars had the same size fuel fillers and caps. Just measured mine and it is 38mm. The picture in the Factory Fit thread is obviously wrong although it was listed as for an E-Type. You need to go by the Wilmott-Breedon part number - WB7/8653. I will make the post clearer.

Thanks for the info. Maybe that's why the seller didn't mention E-Type in his listing. He obviously new the factory fit was wrong!
