Hi all,
I saw a 3.8 with a steel sliding roof. What are the chances of this being factory?
The install looks as if it was done in the factory.
Any impact on value?

None. The Factory did not offer a sliding steel roof as an option so it must be after market.

I got to look at it in more detail today. It looks factory done, amazing quality of work, so a great conversion. Its electric too.
Headroom is really tight, I'm only 5' 7" and its snug.

Interesting. Can you find out more on the conversion such as who did the work, some photos also perhaps ?

A very good example of a S1 2+2 my pal had in for work recently had a steel electric sunroof , we asumed it was a factory item as the panel fit and shape was perfect , if not a factory listed option it could maybe have been requested ?

I was told that Webasto made steel sliding roofs for Rolls Royce. I know they also made and fitted at least one to a S2 2+2.

Unless someone can produce evidence the Factory were prepared to offer such an option we must assume it was after market. Here is the 1963 'Extras and Deviations' list:

And in October 1969:

Well the numerous Webasto roofs fitted to E-types were dealer fit rather than factory fit, so I think it's fair to assume that if there's a steel sliding roof out there it was fitted after the car left the factory, even if it's been effectively fitted 'from new'.
