GPS trackers
#1 GPS trackers
I know this has been discussed before but time has passed and newer options are available.
Just wondered if anyone can recommend any?

a few warnings on my side:
1/ they do consume significant energy => without battery charger, they will empty your battery in 3 weeks
2/ thieves can find how to foul GPS on eBay for 100?
3/ if the car is inside a truck/lorry or a building , you loose GPS signal...
4/ you need a SIM card, of course, no communication is free in this world (and I wonder nobody asked to pay for GPS satellites signal...)
apart from that the one I bought on ebay from HongKong did work OK, once you managed to understand the chinese to english translation...
for that reason and point N?1 I would not recommend it, however, and by te way I disconnected it long time ago; a metal bar joining steering wheell and pedal is more reliable, IMHO

#3 GPS tracker
I had a chip n track fitted to my car. Without it I would not have the car. SCUM sawed through the steering wheel, loaded it onto a flatbed and took it to Essex. Chip n track worked and the police recovered my car in 12 hours. They did look for a tracker but did not find it. Best ?120 I ever spent.....other than buying the car of course.
Steering lock in a series 1 is virtually pointless as a hack saw will chop the wheel in three mins. Now I have ram raid posts, a shroud lock that encloses the wheel, alarm system and the tracker. Suggest you all do the same. J

Hi Ian...have a look at this.....havnt used one myself but it has good reviews in the Mercedes club gazett... http://www.pakatak.co.uk/shopv7/product.asp?P_ID=649 this is a totaly wireless unit and has its own internal rechargable battery
PS...a fuel cutoff switch works well, but only if you havnt told everyone where youve hidden it

My car has a natural fuel cutoff these days
Interesting idea this bonding tracker.
How do you detach it from steel however when you need to recharge it?

do you mean
http://www.chipandtrace.com/#home ?
do you mean they could not find where your tracker was hidden in the car ?cactusman wrote: They did look for a tracker but did not find it.
It still does not bring a solution if the car is indoors or in a Metal Lorry or if the thieves have a GPS signal blurrer (ie if they are professionals)
but yes, it will fool the apprentice, and there are a quite a few wandering around

They looked. They failed. And no point asking me where it is either I am afraid. Won't work in a shipping container but works fine in an Essex car thiefs barn.
Mine was not chip and trace. Just a basic GPS device with a sim. Company is/was? Chip n Track. Any number out there. And yes you can pay more and get one that does work in a shipping container or so they claim. Or you can put it in the garage, chain it to the floor with a huge shroud over the wheel, alarm the garage and then put ram raid posts behind the door like I did. J
