Go pro in the E Type

Hi, has anyone fitted a go pro in there e type.
I have just mounted a Hero 3 on the screen with good results but as with car mounted cameras there's a noise issue.
External microphones seem to be the best answer. ( not outside the car externally )
Anyone fitted one and what mic's do you use

Angus got one for Christmas and is planning to mount it on the dash and also in the nose to get that 'Rendezvous' effect.

We have a cheap 79 Euro 13 Megapixel action cam.

We used it for our diving course, and for the go kart day.

Really great fun !

I was thinking of one of the SatNav's that have a camera fitted, too - haven't taken the plunge yet, but will be interested to hear of other experience with them...... (being old-fashioned, I tend to rely on wits, maps and planning rather than SatNav's - but if I am going to take the car further afield, it might well come in useful - especially if it's on the Continent!)

I have a Garman sat nav for the E Type , it was a present and it works well.
I'll get a mic and test it, although the picture quality through the screen is very good you need some extra mounts to get the right angle.

You must be getting old if you don't know what a go pro is.

I fixed mine to the top of the windscreen last year for a tour of the French Alps but you get lots of shots of a long bonnet which detracts from the road and surroundings. I didn't find sound an issue. My car has the US "bull bars" on the front so I'm going to fabricate a means of fixing it there for this years touring to see what that gives. We control the on off from inside the car with blue tooth from a smartphone, or in my hands, a slightly better than stupid phone.

Hi Keith,

I too have been experimenting with Gopro?s for a 2016 jaunt...with varied success.

First problem I found was that the centre windscreen bar (OTS) totally gets in the way, but as you have an FHC all is good. The over-the-bonnet shot doesn?t look as good unless its roughly symmetrical, so to get this shot:



I had to mount the camera low down to get the bonnet and surroundings. As Ian found, mounting it high up the windscreen doesn't work as well:






To get this shot:



I mounted the camera using a harmless rubber sucker thing here:






And then this one:



I found that the closer the camera is to the road, the better this shot looks. Us Series III owners are lucky (for once) as that totally redundant airscoop finally has a use - its flat underside is perfect for mounting the camera:





As for sound, I'm stumped too. The Gopro sound is indeed pretty rubbish, so I bought a mini recorder and lapel mic:





The sound quality recorded on the mini recorder is awesome, I just haven't found the right place to mount it yet. I've tried cabin (too muffled), under bonnet (too hot and melty making) and exhaust (too windy), but nothing sounds right yet, so I'm doing something/it all wrong.

Any ideas anyone?

Be careful though, as too much dabbling in this might lead you to punching someone in the face when you get to your hotel too late at night, and there is only cold food available.....
