#1 RHD 3.8 Clutch Pipe Routings

Hello

I am trying to find some pictures of the clutch hydraulic pipe routings from the master cylinder for a RHD 3.8 but to date have only been able to find pictures of LHD cars or 4.2's. Could someone share with me some pictures of the clutch pipe routings for a RHD 3.8?

Interesting that both cars have the speedo cable exiting the bulkhead at the bottom and not the through the top grommet.

So which is correct? I can see a problem though because practically all the examples depicted in the Factory Fit thread are LHD.

I believe that it should come through the top based on the fact that all the LHD S1 and 2 cars do and it means that the cable will take gentle loops. I see no reason why the RHD cars wouldn't be the same. However, that is the only evidence l have at this time. It is so hard to find original RHD cars.

Angus, I'm not positive mine's correct but the car was basically original when I got it (in 1975) and I made careful sketches of all the pipe and cable runs before I took it apart it so as to keep it as stock as possible when I rebuilt it.

IIRC, the speedo cable is supported by a clip on the side of the engine stabilizer bracket and that would appear to be more difficult if it emerged from the upper hole.

When I got it my car had the cable through the bottom hole & the top hole had a blanking plug. No guarantee of course that this is how it left the factory. However I think that entry via the bottom hole gives a gentler curve.

Interesting. Andrew, where does your speedo cable exit (l can't see from the pics). I don't see that exitjng the bottom makes a gentler curve than the top?

Great set of photos everyone. Very helpful for this issue. I also found that factory fit which is very helpful for loads of detail ,does concentrate on LHD drive cars for bulkhead layout.

My restoration is a 1962 RHD OTS 3.8 with 4.2 box. Richard Smith told me ALL Series One RHD 3.8 and 4.2 cars used the lower hole for the speedo cable exit. After trying both upper and lower, definitely agree the lower is better for RHD cars and provides a good loop to my box by crossing the bulkhead and over the clutch housing. Bracket C17410 (below)which Richard supplies for S1 RHD cars attaches to the engine stabiliser bracket. (buy from him as he says bracket for S2 is different). This bracket seems to work well when the speedo cable actually passes between stabiliser and cylinder head? ......just my thinking and wonder if the contributors with originality knowledge can confirm? My cable is the 66" one listed for the 4.2 and loops back under the gearbox to the RIGHT side where the speedo angle drive is. The angle drive for the 3.8 Moss box is on the left hand side of the box thus only needing a shorter 60" cable. ( you can guess how I found that out!).Image


The original question was about clutch pipe routing. Can anyone help with the exact location on the RHS of the engine block of C17828 bracket to support the inboard end of the flexible hose from slave cylinder?Image

Hi,

That bracket attaches to the upper face of the rearward-most of the two bolts holding the bellhousing support bracket. Here are a couple of pics from my original 3.8 engine;

here is some of the speedo cable you can just see it above the heater feed pipe making it way over the clutch housing to clip into the drop clip and before heading off down the passenger side of the gearbox tunnel ( RHD car) and onto the speedo angle drive ( 3.8)
