FHC windscreen pillar assembly
#1 FHC windscreen pillar assembly
My DIY body restoration has reached a major crossroads: the windscreen pillars and support structure needs replacing. My real concern is how the pillar attached to the roof cantrail assy. Is the FHC pillar unique or is it just the OTS version welded to separate corner bracket assembly? Mine has rusted/crumbled so badly that I can't tell (Robey's only produce the OTS pillar hence the interest!).

The FHC pillar is specifically for the car . Your best bet is to have a word with Andy at Hutsons , 01274 669052 , who will certainly give you advice and may well be able to produce a pillar or a pillar section for you, or alternatively tell you what to do to adapt an OTS one

In extremis, I'd wager the Series 1 2+2 would be a better source than OTS, once you took approx 1.5" out of its length. 2+2 donor tubs are probably more common too. But clearly Hutsons or another new source would be best.

Thanks I'll call Hutsons tomorrow - the top part of the pillar looks far too difficult for me to fabricate successfully!

As suggested Andy at Hutsons was very helpful. Although he can't supply he did confirm that the pillar is the same as the OTS but with an additional triangular assembly welded on the top - which was a great help.
Now waiting for a new OTS pillar from Robey, so this weekend I took the plunge and drilled-out all the spot welds holding the roof corner fabrication in place. Now it is all stripped-out the construction is much clearer and I am confident I will be able to replicate it. The construction cannot have been very strong/rigid even when new: goodness knows how an FHC ever could survive a roll...
