#1 colour choice

Post by golden oldies » Mon Jan 25, 2016 10:37 pm

is colour choice critical for resale? I'll be painting over the summer, a 69 series II fhc. intended to go white, maybe old english white, but not a fan of old english, a bit too creamy. i prefer a sharper white, but will a non jag colour take from the value of the car?

Have you bought the car with a view to the resale value being a major factor, if you have, then the best choice is to keep it in it's original colour as this should give the best resale value.
If you do change colour, then you will need to consider doing the engine bay as well as nothing looks worse than two different colours when you have the bonnet open (my opinion only)
Assuming that you don't like the original colour, maybe the best choice would be to choose an original e-type colour correct for the model and year of manufacture.
Personally I like Old English White both in the pictures and for real :o

About two years ago I parked by Carmen Red E next to two others, also Carmen Red. All three cars were a different colour. Were any of them trully 'original'? Probably not. All had been re-painted several times in the almost 50 years since they left the factory.

Originally my car was OSG, a colour that suits the 2+2 very well. However it has been red since 1978, and will probably stay red until rust, neglect or other circumstances consign it to the scrap yard.

Mine was originally Opalescent dark blue but has been grey red and green over the intervening 50 years!!! It was Sherwood green whe n I got it. No plan to change it. If you want Max resale value I guess original is best otherwise choose what ever you like although stick to correct period jag colours would be my advice.
