Bicester draw attention to the liklihood that our insurance may not cover cars while on their site as it's an airfield.
I know this is normal for ordinary car policies but was suprised to find that my classic car policy also specifically excludes cover as I would have thought it quite common to have classic car shows on airfields. eg Sywell's Props and Pistons, Wellesbourne, Old Sarum.
Does anybody's policy actually cover them?

interesting. I suspect this is to get around speed trials and the like. Mine does not have this exclusion anyway.

Just checked mine (ClassicLine). I'm fine just as long as I don't hit an aeroplane. Hitting other cars, pedestrians, domestic pets, circus animals etc., fine, no problem. Similarly if an aeroplane decides to hit me I'm covered. Basically, it's my responsibility to steer clear of flying machines.

My policy is through Heritage. Actual policy is KGM (Lloyds). It says:
Airport Use
We will not pay for any loss, damage or liability arising whilst your vehicle or any other vehicle covered by this policy is in:
i. Any place where aircraft take off, land or park including any associated service roads;
ii. A refuelling area, ground equipment areas or the Customs examination areas of international airports.
I read item (i) as anywhere on an airfield/airport site.

Peter James: "used in or on restricted areas of airports or airfields. We will not pay any claim concerning an aircraft within the boundary of the airport or airfield".
I presume the area we will be allowed into will not be "restricted"?

Both those restrictions would appear to relate to what is generally known as 'air-side' - which as a rule is somewhere where you're not allowed to go anyway.
Bicester is a large grass airfield (an 'aerodrome' in the traditional sense, without marked runways). It's mainly glider ops that go on there these days, but I suspect on the day it will most likely be NOTAM'd anyway, meaning there won't be any flying activity going on.

I will ask Bicester on monday, but I don't THINK there is any aviation activity on the day??? actually as I type that, perhaps I am missing the point. Its a club airfield I think. Oh well. I guess the best thing to do is for those not sure to ask their insurers. Judging by the guest list of other clubs, and past exhibitors it doesn't trouble too many. Perhaps you can obtain a dispensation for no charge if you highlight what its all about. I repeat, I think its designed to stop speed trials. If you look at the other exclusions on some policies they normally refer to race circuits, but I think they must have got wise to the fact that lot of sprints etc are on airfields. I have somewhere, a photo of my RS2000 on three wheels with its front inside wheel 8 inches in the air in a cloud of dust on a disused airfield at Montford Bridge, when I was practising to take on Hanno Mikkola in the late 70s. I think its just that sort of behaviour the insurers are trying to get out of. Thank goodness they never excluded deserted Welsh forest tracks

Hagerty , through Hiscox underwriters...
Any loss, damage or liability arising from:
a. airport service vehicles.
b. vehicles being used on those parts of airport premises to which the public do not have free vehicular access.
Interesting........

I think the whole point is that we are all together. We should be directed to our own reserved parking area. Should be an impressive sight !

Its not too late for anyone else to join in the fun. Just add your name to the most recent list, cut and paste it from this thread ( latest ) and then add your name and book your tickets.

Got Tickets :) Worked with Safari on iPhone iOS. Now if only MOT would only be a matter choosing the right browser. If things work out, they say open from 9:00am, when do you plan to arrive at the gate, earlier than 9:00?

In case you did not know, they have accommodation at BH and very impressive it is too!
There are also many good B&B's in the locality which we have used (well at least those close to Gaydon).
