chrome nuts

Hi all,

For my E Type 3.8L, I would like to know if the nuts fiting the carburators on the inlet manifold are chrome.
Is there any chrome nuts also on the air balance pipe and water outlel pipe ?
More generaly, under the bonnet, apart the chrome nuts on the cylinder head is there any others ?

Agree. No...although I have used stainless steel nuts and washers.

For the concourse purist stainless steel would be no good....my car is not concourse although is pretty good. In maintaining mine I look for ways to improve ease of maintenance where possible. Stainless steel fixings never rust so stay looking good...and can always be undone with ease. Obviously not suitable for critical areas in the suspension or steering...SS fixing can be more brittle than mild steel.....but unless you are a show car purist I would recommend replacing as many fixings with stainless steel equivalents where ever possible. They look almost identical and only the concourse judge would ever notice I suspect.

You're right Julian and I'm not a concourse purist but.
The first E Type I restored has now a good state du to it's age.
Some nuts have rust but that don't bother me, I love this global aging.
If on the photos of the non restored car you had some shining nuts it would be a nonsense. So I try to be the most nearer from the original jaguar.
Anyway I respect your way of think.

Everyone does what is best for them. Nobody is wrong. I respect those purists who decide to restore as close to original as possible...right down to the last nut. Equally those who sympathetically modify/improve their cars with better gear boxes and better brakes are just doing what is best for them. That is the great thing about classic cars...everyone does their own thing, shares ideas and gets the best from their passion for great cars...
