#1 headlamp help Series 1 2+2

Post by Spark » Wed Apr 06, 2016 7:32 pm

HI
need some help please with headlamps have searched but to no avail
Series 1 2+2 car

the photos show the Offside headlamp bowl in place with the rubber gasket behind
The flats are at the bottom and the cable exit at the top
The holes for the headlamp alignment screws are positioned at 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock.
With the adjustor in place
The headlamp retainer when positioned fits no problem
Picture looks a little off centre as holding camera and lamp

My issue is that the headlamps ordered from a well know supplier when the lugs are aligned in the retainer the headlamp only fits in correctly in what looks like its upside down i.e turned thro 180 degrees

This doesn't look or feel right
Its the same on both sides and I'm puzzled, could this just be the headlamps packed in wrong box?? or am I missing something here and upside down is correct

Any suggestions please

You may be right! The writing on the glass should be the right way up I would guess.

Also. With the lamp glass bowl fitted...look at which way up the bulb is.

If the bulb is the correct way up you should have the dip beam filament sitting above the small metal plate that is within the bulb envelope.

If the filament sits below the small metal beam blocking plate then the whole lamp glass is indeed upside down. Probably won't make much odds on head beam but dip beam will shine up not down and dazzle oncoming cars.

Maybe yours are LHD although not sure if these would be 180 deg different....someone on here will know.

Can only think it's lamps

I've just installed headlights on a 1.5 car.

The holes in the bonnet for the adjusters are at 9 and 12 oclock. yours seem to be at 3 and 6.

Are you sure that you have the bowl correctly orientated?

There is also a spring that goes from the bowl to the retainer; do you have that?

Thanks for the links to other posts
Everything matches all the pictures
My adjusters are at 3 and 6
I can get all the retaining screws to fit , as they came from the car

I have gone back to the old parts bin and the old headlamp fits

Now I'm puzzled as the new lamps are the standard new parts delivered on the site

Box part number is correct, suplier in ?ber correct

Help please

I had the same issue, the headlamp I used was not ?made for an e-type? but is a high quality aftermarket 7 inch lamp with halogen bulb still in production today.
I got over the problem by purchasing a second set of mountings from the local mini breaker (same part). I altered the silver ring in your centre picture to match the new lamps by first cutting off the threaded tabs, then letting in the same piece - including indentation - cut from the spare set, all that?s left is to repaint.
Took a couple of hours and was a bit fiddly but solves the problem for under a fiver. :)

Thanks for the responses
Still don't have the answer why the lamps don't fit,I'm sure the bonnet, plates and bowls are all correct
Even got the old lamps out of shed and they fit
Can only be suppliers new lamps??

Thanks
