Evening Gents,
Can anyone tell me where the earthing points are for the cooling fans. (1970 2+2)
Are there 2 separate ones or just the one.
I'm having issues with the fans not switching in......they popped on briefly the other day !.....I've checked wiring up to the relay, getting 12v to the fans from there, but direct 12v to either fans produces nothing.
I have recently fitted a new starter motor, and re-done some of the cable ties, so could have easily disturbed something.
Thank you.
Earthing points for cooling fans

The earth wires for both the cooling fans are terminated by a single eyelet connector, which fits under the machine screw securing the fan relay to its bracket. Assuming you have original wiring, it's unlikely to have been knocked off:

It should be fairly easy to troubleshoot if you've got a volt meter. Unlike most relays, the one for the fans only has three terminals. The C2 terminal acts as the 12v supply for both the controlling winding and the power circuit. Hence why there isn't a W2 terminal.
If you first check you have 12v at the green power lead (to C2).
To check the relay is working ok, just connect the W1 terminal to ground (in place of the Black/Red wire) - this should switch the fans on rather than the otter switch in the radiator. The relay should make a click sound if it is working ok. Otherwise it maybe the otter switch in the radiator or wiring to it that is causing the problem.

Thank you, sorted.
It was the main 12v feed from the horn relay to the fan relay. I've re-done it directly to 12v via an inline fuse. I've also cleaned up the grubby looking earth point you've located for me.
My S2 has air con, so there is an extra relay as the fans should come on when the A/C is switched on. The A/C no longer works, and won't re commissioned in its current form, I'm looking to alter the wiring from this relay, so I can use the AC control to override the Otter switch and put the fans on manually "just in case"
