The thing I like is that having driven through rain to get there and a little dampness as I left, I've got an excuse to rag the car over and apply another coat of polish.

I did have a long chat wiith one chap who'd sold his 2+2 a few years back due to ill health. He had a good look over in and under mine, asking questions and clearly re-living fond memories.

Should thank Philip Porter for the free magazine. Sorry, but I wont be joining.

Well what a fantastic day out.

It was great to meet up with everyone and see so many new faces (and bump into a few familiar ones too), a big thanks to Andrew for organising the meet.

Somehow blagged my way in / charmed the lady on the gate to let me park my tin can near your wonderful machines. "Well the club do want me to park with them" "oh do they really sir??" "I am doing a piece for the magazine too so it would be an enormous help if you did let me in, what with cameras and tripods and all that, be a lovely lady and let me in"...." oh alright then" I suppose being there early helped.

Particularly with the arrival of Tony, Ian, Stephen and gang (Alty Ian, Stevemanc, 288gto) all in one go. Well done on your restoration(s) over the past few years, they are a credit to your work, the OTS in particular was superb. Not seen Tony for a few years, since he kindly gave me a ride in his OTS.

Steve you lucky bugger having an E to drive around in ;)

Proof that there are PEOPLE behind these usernames:

Marek and Angus are plotting something I imagine... world domination?

Image

All smiles for Tony, Marek and Martin Scherz (nefematic) who even flew in from Stuttgart despite not getting his E-Type roadworthy in time, that's dedication I would say!

"Ah David, something to add to your factory fit thread":

Angus quickly steps in to diffuse the situation

On my way out I even spotted the E-type I drove at Upper Heyford a couple of years ago:

Forum border or background photo David? (The earlier panoramic shot is better actually)

As David pointed out, the next event is mine and Richard's High Peak Run on Sunday 10th July, not quite as central as Bicester but it would be nice to see a few of you there

Thanks for a fantastic day out. Already back on to studying. That's the way of the world I guess! Thanks to all, hope you had a safe journey home.

Great photos Simon. I DO hope that we can make this get together, whether at Bicester or not elsewhere a bit of an annual date.

Great day and really good to put faces to names, makes the forum a bit more personal. Thanks to Andrew and his helpers for organising the event. Really big thanks to Julian (SNG) for bring down my new voltage stabiliser and to the boys who help me fit it without setting fire to the car. It is great having a temp guage that now works. Also thanks to Alty Ian for getting me there in his convoy even if I did meet him in the wrong service station.
Apologise to any people I did not touch base with, will get to meet you next time.

Thanks to everyone for a marvellous day. Bit damp as I left but other than a chilly wind the weather was not too bad. Great to see such a large turn out of fabulous cars and lovely to chat to those I manage to. Thanks too to Richard for the labels and to Bicester Heritage for their hospitality. A great day out. Let's do it again!!!!

Couldnt agree more Tony.

Thanks to Andrew and Richard and sorry I didnt get the chance to meet everyone. We did cop for the weather on the way back up north as illustrated below taken by Simon 288gto from my S3 as the wiper motor decided to die

Image

and the OTS got well and truly christened in the rain. Simon took this parting shot of you Tony as we were leaving the M6 and you were carrying on.

Thank you to everyone who posted photos and comments of your meet. I guess that a vicarious attendance will have to do for me, but I really did enjoy reading your posts and seeing the pictures. WELL DONE!

good collection of photos there Simon, I only had my telephone to take snaps, and spent more time looking at the superb array of cars around the old buildings, a lot of which was spent with some of these beauties at the E Type club...

No it was fine, really strange as that noise only occured (or could only be heard) between 1500 and 2000 rpm just after stopping, then it went away for the rest of the time and the alternator worked OK. Cant fathom out what it is. Marek suggested Alternator and I cant think what else engine related it could be. The engine runs fine and power steering too, plus water pump seems OK too.

I think I will remove the alternator first and see if there is any play in the bearings of it to rule that out first.

It greatly enhances the value of ownership to meet up with such a knowledgable and enthusiastic group of people.

Thank you Ian for the workshop manual nice to own the original 'two screw' binding opposed to the later 'snap-ring' type. I thought your sons golden sand OTS to be a real achievement and I think he said it was the first such project he had undertaken!

Well done Martin coming all the way from Stuttgart, we look forward to seeing the car next time. Hopefully BH will address the lack of catering as the queues were too long and caused me to miss saying 'hello to many' because after returning from lunch most had made an exit.

Apologies for the poor quality of the 'self opening' name tags - unfortunately they were supplied in a sealed bag with no chance to check them - why is it that simple items can be made so unfit for purpose?

My lesson of the day being shown the correct front side light lenses - an order for Merak

Nice images and comments Simon. Thank you to Andrew for coming up with what was an inspired idea in the first place?

Good to see the new set of Etype wheels Mr Thirley and for causing a second 'ear take'!

Just to echo what's already been said: great day out, and really good to (finally) be able to put faces to names, chat face to face, and see some of your superb cars in the flesh for once.

The area 'out back' amongst the buildings was fascinating: everywhere you turned there was yet another gathering of interesting cars - it was like a magnificent piece of set dressing.

Despite using my 'skill, care and judgement' to neatly avoid all the showers on the way up, I got hit by a bit of rain as I approached my overnight stop in Leicestershire, and then truly hammered by the rain on the 20 minute drive to drop the car off for service in Derbyshire this morning! Hey, ho......

Looking forward to the next one. Well done to Andrew for instigating the idea in the first place!
