Morning. I need to top up front brake fluid reservoir on our series 3 but unlike the rear, the fluid is blue in colour. Presumably I should match it, any ideas what it is though?

Hi Kev,
The only blue brake fluid I have seen was Silicone, could somebody have converted yours to silicone brake fluid?

Easy to find out by smell or touch. If in doubt try mixing a drop with water - silicone will separate out immediately.

Super ATE racing is blue, IIRC, but not Silicone - removes paint like a sandblaster though.

Am I the only one thinking that brake fluid is cheap enough to warrant a complete flush with new? I change mine every two years, no matter what mileage. Even without modified lines on the rear cage it isn't a difficult or time consuming job. And the benefit is that fresh new fluid (DOT5.1 in my case) firms up the pedal and ensures high resistance to heat fade, should I ever find myself descending high mountain passes - like in the Pyrenees later this year.

Indeed buy the OP needs to find out if it is glycol or silicone fluid first. Mixing the two would be bad news!
