Is it possible to ADJUST the handbrake caliper ratchet nuts from the inspection plate inside the car, I have got two plates fitted above each caliper but have never removed them. Last time I asked if it is possible to remove calipers with cage on car and was given a resounding no. My dodgy back will not take another cage drop so if it cannot be adjusted I wll have to bite the bullet and pay to get it done, that will please her indoors

As I said on FB Jon, if you have the plates cut out above, you can adjust the ratchets fine. If needs be, you can remove, refurbish and refit the handbrake callipers easily through these plates. To adjust, jack the car up at the rear, pull the handbrake on two clicks, adjust ratchet until wheels lock, should then pass test ok.

Thanks Ian, as the wife has been pretty much an E Type widow for the past three months, it will have to wait a few days until I butter her up. New fuel pump ready to go in now as I have replaced all the lines and the pump is playing up. I did discover that the smell of fuel inside the car was caused by a small drip from the filter bowl so hopefully all problems are well on way to being sorted. I did notice on the old fuel pump which was totally rebuilt with new seals and pumps that the state of the diaphragms was really bad with one being almost perished. I have decided to go down the line of a contactless pump with modern seals which should be better with additives in fuel I will let you know how it performs as its not an SU but the flow rate and output pressure are very similar

Whoever told you that was quite wrong. In fact the procedure is described in detail in the manual. I wouldn't say it is an easy job but I've done it myself from underneath with the car on jackstands. This was to renew the handbrake pads, one of which had become detached. Access through the inspection cover helps a little, too.jonhall88 wrote:....
