What are the extra pipes at the back of the cam covers for?

The pipes are breathers. The normal front breather is blanked off by the fuel injection drive (unused here). On the non-injection Ds the breather is blanked off because the header tank is very close to the head.

So Andrew, are you going to mount the engine vertically and use the D-type 8-degree manifold with the carbs off-level, or tilt the engine? I tilted the engine but it's a lot of work. Alloy block and wet sump by the look of it? Mine's the other way around. What crank and rods are you using (all Crossthwaite and Gardiner I presume?). Drool drool...

How do you fit/tension the water pump belt without an adjustable pump pulley like a D, or are you running one belt over the dynamo as well?

The engine is for an all aluminium lightweight E Type replica. Yes it's the C&G block and head. Rods were Carillo; not sure about pistons.

It has been an interesting build although I am only a spectator and spanner fetcher on this one.

C&G offer to assemble and dyno the engine although this costs an additional UKP25k on top of the approximately UKP50k Chris spent on the engine components.

A major issue (apart from being on the other side of the world) has been that there is no guarantee that anything will actually fit. There has been a lot of fettling required and so far assembly has spanned more than 6 months.

The issue of the belt tensioner is a bridge yet to be crossed. Chris has a Dynalator coming but it has not yet arrived.

We have the body largely finished and assembled now, and hopefully will have the car complete by the end of this year.

Still gorgeous mind you, and if they can charge that much that's their own business, literally. Here's my own build with a 'mule' 3.4 engine using the same angled manifold to make the carbs level with a tilted engine. Complex transmission and dynamo packaging issues from the 8.5 degree tilt, but essential for a good likeness.

Always had the impression that C&G was expensive but 50k for block and head?
So a complete alloy dry sumped wngine would be over 100k then? That is insane
