Exhaust sealant / paste ?

Hi,

Am about to fit the new downpipes. Would you use exhaust sealant (a german brand would be GunGum) between manifold and downpipe ?

Then, SNG did send me three standard length exhaust manifold studs, so I used them - does that work ? The manual says three should be longer, for oil dip stick retaining clip and the gearbox vent pipe retainer.

Hi Carsten.......do you have the sealing rings that fit between the manifolds and the downpipes.....i didnt use any paste here but on all other joints

You should only need one long stud for the dipstick holder.

You should always use a sealant between the manifold and the downpipes or you will forever be trying to fix exhaust leaks there. Use lots of it.

Hi guys

Sorry to revive an old topic but which brand of exhaust sealant is recommended and how and where should it be applied between the manifold and downpipe? Should I use some on the neck of the downpipe before also fitting the sealing rings? Apologies if stupid question but not used exhaust sealant before

Hi Trevor....use whatever exhaust paste you can get localy....i never used it between the manifolds and downpipes the sealing ring was good enough...however it wont harm useing it....put the ring on....and smear paste where the ring meets the pipe..dont go mad with it, it will just squeeze out every where.. Steve
