#1 Missing spacer in final drive

Post by 66an » Tue Aug 09, 2016 8:26 pm

Hi, everyone. I have now started my restoration of my 1966 OTS.
I am rebuilding the differential and I have a part missing. It is the “Distance Washer 8029” between the pinion bearings.
The distance washer is not available anymore, at least what I have found out .
So I have some alternatives:

1. Maybe, maybe a tip where I can buy one?

2. On later differentials the distance washer was replaced by a “Collapsible spacer 12456”. Any chance this will fit my 1966 diff? A quick research gives that S2 models in Europe market used a the collapsible spacer while US S2 cars still have the older"distance washer".

3. Go to a mechanical workshop and let them make a new one for me. Perhaps someone kind who have the diff disassembled, and can measure the length on the distance washer?

It is this one marked with red:

Mats : the gearsets are fairly standard Dana gearsets fitted also to Jeeps , so if you find someone who repairs Jeep Cherokee etc , they may be able to help . Whether the distance piece is identical in every case I do not know, but someone who rebuilds the axle units will almost certainly be able to tell you . I do not know whether Jeeps are all that common in Sweden , but if you cannot get help in Sweden I should try one of the rebuilders in the UK ( a search of this forum should provide contact details ) or have a look on the net for rebuilders in the USA

I contacted AJ and got the answer. The spacer I asked for was newer introduced on this final drive although it is in the spare parts catologue.
Maybe it was in use for other heavier applications for the final drive, I do not know.
Thank you!
