#1 original item or PO IVR improvement?

Post by mark10337 » Fri Sep 30, 2016 7:21 am

Hi

I found the following attached to the 10v Instrument Voltage Regulator (IVR). It is labelled 5MFD 250WV. Is this original? The casing was attached to the thumb screw on the bracket of the oil pressure with the lead going to the 12v B terminal of the IVR.

It's a capacitor to dampen any voltage spikes. They are also present under the s3 dash. I'm not sure whether this is a replacement part or not, as by 1974, those were a large blue plastic can with the manufacturer's name alsom stamped onto them.

I'd just put it back.

kind regards
Marek

As far as I can tell from the SII parts list, not original, but the scans aren't very good in places.

Period, definitely, I find them all the time in circuits like the IVR. It certainly isn't hurting things, you can leave it in, take it out, or upgrade to an electronic IVR which won't generate any noise (partly because it has caps built in to the casing).
