#1 Gearbox oil leak ??

Post by NWplasterers » Tue Nov 22, 2016 2:00 pm

Hi all
Have noticed when starting up I get a dribble of oil coming from the gearbox area (haven't managed to get underneath to look as yet!)
First time I noticed it it left an apple diameter sized patch on floor.
However after a run and when standing still and off, nothing ?!
Just seems to be on initial start/tick over !
Only a recent occurrence.

Any thoughts ?

Thank you

Neil

Moss box, Jaguar all-synchro, Auto, 5 speed?

Suggest you also put your car model/details in your signature which will help people respond quickly and succinctly.

Oops,yeah sorry !!
1966 S1 2+2 4-speed original manual.
Also any recommendations on who can refurbish it at some point, has a distinctive whine in first,so may try to alleviate both problems in one go.

Many thanks

Neil.

Mine whines in first, as well as second and third. It has done for over 50,000 miles and probably some time before that. It also leaks, not a lot, but the odd drip. I dont care, and I wont take the gearbox apart for the whine or the drip(s). I fully intend driving at least another 50,000 miles before I contemplate any kind of a rebuild. I can live with the whine, and the odd drips find their way onto the underside where they help prevent rust.

I always assumed the oil on the underside of my E was the Jaguar anti-rust system!
