Is this an original keyring?

Hi, I've recently seen posts on a Facebook page of people's e type key fobs, and they look different to mine. I was told when I bought the car it had the original keyring. Can anyone confirm for me if this is the original type of keyring for a 1969 series 2.

The term "original" can be misleading. Original keyrings are not always the fobs offered by Jaguar Cars Ltd at the time. Your car could have the original keyring if the fob has been with your car since the car was new.

Your keyring was not one of the two types offered by Jaguar Cars Ltd in its spares parts catalogues for the Series 2 E-type. But your keyring could still be the original one supplied by the dealer or acquired by the first owner of your car and used with the car since new.

I was wondering about this as the metal bit doesn't flip up, it's sort of sown into the leather.
Interesting about the font, is it the G that gives it away?

Most keyrings at the time featured hinged badges that flipped up, often revealing a maker's mark at badge reverse. Your unusual fob appears to have a resin over decal type badge, which typically were blank at reverse, inlaid in the leather fob. The badge may even be secured to the fob by a small flange underneath the leather, which would make it even more unusual. Nice specimen and quite likely period-correct!

My 5 years of research for my pending book "Vintage Jaguar Keyrings, 1955-1980, The Untold Story" suggests the difference in font is only useful in distinguishing between several variations of the early red Jaguar Growler keyring offered by Jaguar Cars in its spare parts manuals--the G in Jaguar between variations differs.
