#1 girling torque

Post by MLBS3V12 » Sat Jun 03, 2017 10:15 am

Hi all
I working on the front calipers from my S3.
They have been replated and new pistons+seals are going to be used.
Does someone knows the torque to be applied on the 4 screws used to joint the 2 1/2 calipers together ?
Thank you for your help.
Michel

When I did mine I sourced new Grade 8 fasteners and torqued them appropriately for that thread, Grade 8 in CI.

I did it this way as I wasn't sure of the grade of the original fasteners, nor was there any way to tell if someone had been there before me and overtorqued them.

Put the pistons, seals and dustcovers into the halves before you reassemble them - it really is a lot less fiddly that way.

I did exactly the same. I reckon I used some Loctite too.

Grade 8 over there isn't the same as grade 8 over here. Here 8 = 12.9. And 5 there is 8 here. I suppose one of the things we are going to have to get used to in the new post hard-Brexit world our glorious leader is determined to take us to, will be a return to imperial units as the only place we will be able to trade with will be USA. (Remember, she allowed Trump to hold her hand, which is more than Malaria Trump allowed him to do!)

I generally use the "Old System" when I'm referring to Imperial. I know it isn't the correct thing to do, but:

A) I grew up in Canada, when an inch was an inch, and a gallon was an (Imperial) gallon.
B) I live in Switzerland, which isn't in the EU.

I had on this topic that I ve found the small o ring with square section @ http://www.northwestclassic.co.uk/
These o ring are never into the calipers kit. If you dismantal the calipers you need to change them.
The guy has been very helpfull and the service was good.
cheers.
