#1 E-Type Club Day 2017 - Saturday 3rd June
All being well, Richard and I will be there in the 3.8. I know that not all of you are Club members, but will anyone be in attendance on the Saturday? (Malcolm / Tony, I imagine you'll be there?)

I'm there from the Friday until the Monday. Doing the drive out on Sunday, so thought I'd stay over and go home Monday. I'm there for the informal dinner Friday evening.

Thank you - I have now just joined the Club. Being new to E Types, there's a whole lot I don't know about ;)

I'm involved with both the club and the forum and enjoy both equally. The club events are always enjoyable (including the one we organise annually), a nice crowd of people, some lovely cars and usually a nice setting for a meeting too. :) I look forward to the magazine (which any member is welcome to contribute to) as I don't get the time to read for leisure much. Usually enjoyed with a glass of red one evening!

Safely back in Central Europe - and more importantly with access to my laptop!
Saturday reminds me why I love E-Types and being in the club also. A lovely collection of motors, the chance to catch up with some familiar faces, meet new people and enjoy my first ride in an E-Type in almost 2 years. I have missed that over-the-bonnet view, the noise, the smell and the excitement of these cars. There were one or two forum members to catch up with too - Tony, Malcolm and Ian Cooke with his lovely S2 FHC.

(View along one of my favourite little sections of road on the familiar journey to Higham from Ripley - a few nice little bends and good views from the top of the hill, always used to drive it to and from school)
A bright and early start from Derbyshire with nobody on the roads made for an enjoyable ride down to the Chateau Impney, just off the M5 between Bromsgrove and Droitwich. Typically, we were of the first of the day guests to arrive which allowed us to get a few shots in front of the Chateau before being roped into parking duties, which usually happens
Here's a good selection for you to browse, including a chance to see bronze with suede green in the daylight too.

Thanks once again to Richard for involving me in the restoration - the car behaved very well throughout the day too. Its MOT was only on Thursday and some last minute adjustments to the torsion bars were needed once it had settled. The carbs will need leaning off slightly but that is partly because the engine is still bedding in. Otherwise all was well. The 3.8 seats were reasonably comfortable over that length of journey too.

I would also say that the 3.8 has a bit more "go" about it and likes the higher rev range even if we didn't push her too much. This ties in with my observations from my driving experience too. It has a slightly higher pitch to it in comparison to the 4.2 as well, and because this was running on cast manifolds the exhaust note was a lot different (and better I think too - no tinkling at the lower rev range)
Ian happened to park right next to us, with Tony and Malcolm not too far away either. On the other side of us was 860005, the very early car finished in that fabulous opalescent dark blue. A few more miscellaneous pictures from the day:

860005

Not a bad view having just been dropped off by the taxi!
All in all an anjoyable day. The only slight mishap involved me catching the sun a bit and ending up with a red nose!

Nice pictures Simon, great to meet up again with Richard and yourself. As usual Richard pulled me out of the mire with spanners and a battery change. It was great weekend and met up with some old friends and was very greatfull to the guy and his son for giving me a lift into Worcester to buy a new battery. The good news was Halfords gave me a full refund on my old battery as it was just inside the 4 year warranty.
So a great weekend, good company and more new friends. Apart from the battery the car ran like clockwork.

The 3.8 looks superb, and a real credit. I like the colour combination and did you say its unique?

Kind of, it's the only FHC delivered in this country with that colour scheme. There were 16 bronze with suede green cars ever made, 6 of them RHD and 5 of them were OTSs. One notable car with bearing this scheme is 875006 which bears a few differences from standard production cars.
Glad everything got sorted in the end Tony - Richard usually ends up coming to the rescue with people!

What did Richard do with the exhaust manifolds as they look very good. Are they bought like that or home prepared?

The manifolds came from XKs Unlimited - they are a newly developed ceramic coating. Apparently they use much better quality iron and rate the coating for 1400 F and come with a "lifetime guarantee." I do like the finish too.

Hi Simon
Great pictures Simon.
Jane and I enjoyed chatting to you on Saturday. We were really impressed with your passion for E types and have no doubt that you will achieve your ambition of owning one of these superb machines. It took me nearly 40 years but I'm sure that it won't take you nearly as long!
Ian

Prices seem to be rocketing though. All my life I've owned Aston Martins. Since I was 21 in fact. Now I can't afford one. I sold a DB6 less than ten years ago for £41,500. Worth easily quarter of a million today. Still some to be found in the US - I bought an import from S Carolina last year for £40,000 - very sound but needing quite a bit of work. I seem to have embarked on a total rebuild now though. A truly horrible Series I barn find recently sold at auction for £145,000.

It was lovely to chat to you both, it's always surprising when someone comes and finds you and nice that it was a fellow forum member. (Probably helped by the fact that you and Jane had parked next to Richard and I !) I do hope I can own one someday - I intend on getting one when I can, but we'll have to see how the next 10/ 20 years pan out first!Ian Cooke wrote: Jane and I enjoyed chatting to you on Saturday. Fabulous car by the way - an E-Type always looks smart in white and yours was a particularly nice one too.
